NMF Therapy & Service Dog Program
In 2016, my Dad traumatically passed away. The next year, I struggled with depression. I relied heavily on the therapy of my farm animals, to include my horses and dogs, for my own personal healing. Going through this, I knew my animals provided me comfort during this challenging time in my life. But it was not until later that I felt like they saved me. This was such an eye-opener to me for how horses and dogs can be so healing and therapeutic to those who deal with anxiety, depression, Bipolar, ADHD, Autism, Alzheimer's, and so forth. Therapy dogs are not only beneficial to their owners but they can be used to assist and provide comfort in other facilities, such as nursing homes, hospitals, pediatric clinics, schools, and hospice homes.
New Moon Farm's own Remington and Ladybug are in the process to become therapy dog certified, where they will be allowed to go into facilities and provide comfort to those in need. We are so excited for this opportunity!
Service dogs are trained to perform certain tasks for their owner. They are trained specifically to aid a person with a disability. Dogs can be trained to detect when a person's blood sugar is dropping or to indicate when a person is about to have a seizure.
I believe that New Moon Farm's dogs have the demeanors and capability to become therapy or service dogs for those in need. My desire is for my NMF puppies to be able to touch those in need, no matter what an individual may be dealing with in their life. New Moon Farm will be donating puppies beginning in 2023 to use as therapy and/or service dogs. Please reach out with any questions.
