NMF Guardian Home Program

We created a Guardian-Home Program to grow our breeding program while still providing each of our breeding dogs with a loving environment in a guardian family, keeping them out of kennels.  A guardian dog is placed with a loving family at a reduced cost (price of a deposit, $300).  There are many benefits to becoming a guardian home for one of NMF dogs.  Keep reading to find out more details on how our Guardian Homes work and how the dog will eventually be a permanent member of your family.

Benefits of the Guardian-Home Program
Instead of spending $2500 or more on the purchase price of a puppy, you will benefit from receiving a puppy of the Breeder's choice for the price of a deposit, $300.  This payment will cover the initial expenses of the puppy (i.e. microchipping, deworming, etc).  NMF will pay all vet costs for health testing associated with the breeding of the Dog.  If you are a Guardian for one of our females, we will compensate you $300 per litter once her puppies go home, or you can choose a puppy from her last litter before she is spayed.   This is an exciting opportunity to be apart of the NMF team!

Initial Obligations of Guardian Family

In order to be considered for the Guardian-Home Program, we require that you:

  1. Have a fenced in backyard to provide a safe and secure environment for the Dog. This

also protects the Dog from any unplanned, unwanted pregnancies and is crucial!

  2. Never leave the Dog off leash in an unsecured area.  NO dog parks allowed!

  3. Have reliable transportation and willingness to bring the dog to us when needed

throughout the year for breeding purposes (i.e. testing, breeding, litters, etc.).

  4. Maintain open lines of communication with us concerning any matter related to the Dog.

  5. Understand that the breeder may need to make decisions about your female or male and you will have to respect those decisions. Examples may include, but are not limited to: keeping the female longer, additional vet care, etc. All decisions WILL ALWAYS BE for the betterment of the Dog.

  6. The guardian puppy must complete a puppy course or obedience training class (NMF will reimburse you 1/2 the cost of the class upon completion).

  7. The guardian puppy must be on TLC Pet foods while in the guardianship program.

Ownership

Ownership and all right, title and interest in the Dog shall remain with NMF. If the Dog is a female, any puppies born to the Dog shall be the sole property of the Owner / breeder. The Guardian Family shall have no ownership interest of possession rights to any such puppy. If the Dog is a male, all semen shall be sole property of the Owner / breeder and the Guardian Family shall have no ownership interest of possession rights to any use of the semen. Under no circumstances shall the dog be bred to any dog other than as directed by the breeder. After the Dog ceases to be a Breeder(typically no more than 4 breedings for a female), NMF will transfer ownership of the Dog to the Guardian Family after spay or neuter (expense covered by NMF).

Guardian Family Obligations

  1. Raise the dog as an indoor dog.

  2. When left at home, safely contain the dog indoors (a kennel is preferred).

  3. Comply with Owner’s nutritional and dietary guidelines and pay all cost and expenses

    associated with feeding the dog.

  4. Provide the Dog with regular exercise and socialization.  Do not allow the dog to become overweight.

  5. Schedule and pay for all veterinary appointments (other than those associated with breeding, which will be covered by the Owner) and provide routine medical care appropriate for the breeding Dog.

  6. Continue to ensure the dog is compliant, kennel-trained, housebroken, leash-trained, does not jump, mouth or excessively bark. The Dog’s puppies’ safety relies on calm and focused behavior.

  7. Puppies in a guardian home must complete a puppy training course after he/she receives all of his puppy shots. ½ of the training cost will be paid for by Robin French. Once the dog is deemed ready, he/she is expected to test for the dog’s canine good citizen title.

  8. Notify the Owner of any planned vacations and change of address, phone or email.
